Someday, people are going to look back on this as a period of heedless, unfettered travel. We’re sandwiched between an era when travel was expensive, slow and impractical and a time in the not-distant future when travel will be next to impossible because of dwindling energy resources. It’s going to seem really weird to 2045 us that 2019 us would willingly get on airplanes to go a thousand miles away to see relatives we don’t even like, when we could have stayed home and stockpiled water.
